Way back in high school, I had a teacher that really inspired me when I felt I have had enough of school and bored of every classroom. English 2A was the class that really lit my spark of creativity. Ms. Deis had a teaching style that was strict, however it was also very open to the students ideas. Every project she gave, she made about the student and really enforced that she was grading on effort put into the project instead of the material she had “required.” This was where “Average Randoms” was born.

One project that really stuck with me, was a CD playlist of songs that the students felt most represented their lives. After my presentation, Ms. Deis decided to sit me down and just wanted to talk about the songs I had chosen. She felt that they were not accurate to my situation but still gave me an “A.” I had been told at that moment that I had more to offer the world than what I had originally thought. This stood out to me, because that’s what really showed me that someone cared enough about my creativity and how I felt I play my part in the world. My CD was called “Just My Average Randoms.” Everything that Average Randoms is and will become is dedicated to Ms. Deis. May she always have a spot in my heart and may her soul rest in peace.
